Data & Confidentiality

A plain-English summary of how BuildThread handles your data. This page is a summary for convenience. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use are the governing documents.

Who owns the data?

You do. Every prospect conversation, buyer interaction, and piece of project data collected through BuildThread on your behalf belongs to you. BuildThread acts as your data processor, not the owner. A Data Processing Addendum is available on request for teams that need one as part of their own procurement process.

Can my competitors see my data?

No. BuildThread serves multiple builders, including builders who compete with each other in the same markets. Your specific data, including prospect identities, conversations, pricing, and incentives, is never shared with another builder under any circumstance. Your conversation content is also never used to train any AI model made available to or shared with another builder. The only cross-builder product BuildThread offers is aggregated, anonymized market benchmarking that contains no identifiable information from any individual builder.

What if one of my prospects is also talking to a competing builder who uses BuildThread?

Each builder's data relating to that prospect is treated completely separately. BuildThread does not connect the two, and neither builder gains visibility into the other's relationship with that prospect.

Will my buyers ever see a competing builder's listings inside their BuildThread experience?

No. The buyer hub and prospect experience BuildThread builds for your team is scoped exclusively to your communities and your homes. There is no link, search box, or path inside that experience that leads a buyer to another builder's listings. BuildThread separately operates a public new home search tool that aggregates active listings across builders nationwide, but it is a distinct destination a buyer would have to seek out independently, not something surfaced from within your branded experience.

What does BuildThread actually do with my data?

BuildThread's AI processes prospect conversations to produce the dossiers, engagement scores, and recommended actions your team sees in the platform. That processed intelligence is the core product. The underlying raw conversation data is retained on your behalf and available to you on request. BuildThread also uses de-identified, aggregated data across builders to improve the platform's analytics and features generally, and may develop industry benchmark reports from that same aggregated data, never from your specific, identifiable data.

Can BuildThread sell my data?

No. BuildThread does not sell personal information, and does not share SMS opt-in data with any third party for marketing purposes, ever.

Who decides which buyers get text messages?

You do. BuildThread provides the messaging infrastructure, but your team determines which buyers and prospects are enrolled in SMS communications and when.

What about the future marketplace for paint, moving services, and similar offerings?

BuildThread connects buyers to outside partners for these services but is not the seller or provider of any partner product. A buyer's contact information only reaches a partner when the buyer specifically requests that connection. BuildThread may earn a referral fee from these partnerships, which never affects the price a buyer pays.

Can I export my data if I leave?

Yes. You can request a commercially reasonable export of your data at any time, with or without an ongoing relationship.

Is BuildThread a broker or agent?

No. BuildThread is software only. It does not act as a real estate broker, agent, fiduciary, lender, appraiser, or advisor, and is not a party to any home sale or financing decision.
